  1. targetbutt Said,

You can get a lenspen from a camera store.

It should be fine, just be sure to mix the windex with equal parts distilled water (don’t use tap water) and use cotton balls. This is assuming you can’t get specialist cleaning cloths.

  3. redleg_cab Said,

Windex and a lenscloth or cotton swabs is fine.
Its a good idea to blow or brush off and heavy dirt before you wipe it in order to reduce the chances of scratching the lens.
In a pinch rubbing alcohol or vinegar could also be used.

Go to your Optition’s shop, camera store, gun store or sporting goods store and get some lens cleaning cloths. There are some that come as moist pads in little sealed envelops. They also make lens cleaning kits that contain a cloth and a small bottle of cleaner. DO NOT USE WINDEX. Some of the Windex formulations contain an ammonia compound and it can damage the coating on your lenses. Use only cleaning solutions that are made specifically for cleaning lenses. Keep your lens cleaning cloth clean. If it gets dropped on the ground do not use it until you can wash it or replace it. if it gets any grit on it and you rub the lenses with the gritty cloth you can scratch your lenses.

Go to an eyeglass shop and buy a bottle of their lens cleaner, it’s good stuff and you don;t need a lot of it to do the job, and it’s safe for all lens coatings, says so on the bottle.
